I recognized you instantly. All of our lives flashed through my mind in a split second. I felt a pull so strongly towards you that I almost couldn't stop it
Every now and then...
You find yourself in the presence of true love. Soulmates. It's rarer than you think. It's the kind of fondness and familiarity that radiates itself onto everyone around them. Nothings strained or awkward, they just look so content in each-others arms.
Angelah and Hemi are one of those couples. The kind of couple you meet, see together and know they are meant to be.
As someone that still gets extremely nervous going into shoots and working with people (I'm not a very bubbly person and I know that's what a lot of people expect from a Wedding Photographer), it's great to work with couples' that "disappear into each-other", forgetting about the camera often and focusing on their other half.
Amelia of The Plumber's Bouquet crafted this beautiful bouquet for the day. She's a Christchurch based florist supplying blooms for every kind of event... styling Wedding venues through to gorgeous birthday posies. Her wee pup Phoebe helps her manage the store in Merivale... as well as greeting the visitors and clients at the front door!

Angelah and Hemi had actually finally gotten married earlier this year in January... They'd been planning to get hitched a couple years ago, but found the process a lot more stressful than they wanted. Tossing up eloping or doing a ceremony with their loved ones, they chose to get down to Queenstown and have a small intimate ceremony lakeside with their closest family and friends. They've been together for seven years, and the timing felt right.
Funnily enough, they'd actually considered Pemberton when they had originally started planning!
Pemberton Gardens is a gorgeous venue about 10 minutes outside of Christchurch.
Hidden away from the rustle and bustle of town, the Gardens offers not only the outdoor ceremony site and reception hall, but the option of accommodation out the back of the gardens. This can be the perfect spot for the bridal party to be close to the wedding venue and have somewhere to get ready. You'd be able to walk down past the ceremony site (hidden) and come back the aisle... all without the groom seeing!
This venue would be perfect for a smaller wedding, and you can check out more on the website below.
Our souls already know each other, don’t they?’ he whispered. ‘It’s our bodies that are new.
Now, I'm sure by this point the majority of us are completely in love with Angelah's dress...
And there's a little bit of a funny story behind it...
Angelah and Hemi are major Sims' fans and play regularly. Sims' is a computer game based on characters and "helping" them form their lives. Any-who... while Angelah had been hiding her stunning dress from Hemi before the wedding, she gave him the challenge of designing what HE thought the dress would look like. He created almost exactly the same dress as was hidden away. He'd never seen it before their wedding day.
Now that's in tune!
I've always been a fan of unscripted images. Emotional images. Images that capture the real moments. The real you. A lot of the time with couple's shoots, this can be achieved by guiding the couple into a pose where they don't have to look at the camera if they don't want, or where they are simply looking to each-other.
Not a lot of people like being told to kiss... it gets kinda awkward quite quickly. So I'm a big fan of the "lean in, little bit closer... oh you can get closer than that!"...
I would like to thank Angelah and Hemi, The Plumber's Bouquet and Pemberton Gardens for being a part of this styled shoot.
It turned out to be a beautiful day with the most gorgeous early afternoon light, and it's always a pleasure being witness to something special.
